“We are contemplating terminating your employment…”

These are words I never thought I would hear.  Words that changed the course of my life forever.  In July 2009, the University of New Mexico sent me a letter with those words.  I was in shock.  “What do I do?  How do I respond? Is there anyone who can help me?”  Little did I know that I would meet and hire an attorney who would not only answer those questions for me, but who would end up literally saving my life and being my employer.  That attorney is Tim White.

Tim worked tirelessly for five years to help me win my case against UNM, and it wasn’t easy.  There were endless hearings, meetings, failed mediations, requests for documents, depositions, and at one point an appeal because the judge dismissed my case after two and a half years.  Tim won that appeal, and got my case back on the docket for a jury trial.

When we went to trial in October of 2014, I was nervous, but I knew I had the best employment law attorney in all of New Mexico representing me.  I will never forget sitting in the courtroom thinking that my entire life was hanging by a thread; a thread I hoped the jury would not cut.  Many thanks also go to attorney Suzanna Valdez, who’s expertise in picking juries was crucial to the success of my case.  She also stood by me and supported me in the courtroom when my emotions were nearly getting away from me.

On October 14, 2014, after a one-week trial, the jury was sent out to deliberate.  The fear and anxiety I felt for all those years leading up to this point was just about too much to bear.  Then, after only a couple of hours, the jury came back.  They decided UNANIMOUSLY in my favor, awarding me a substantial amount of money and sending UNM the message that cannot discriminate against or wrongfully terminate people with disabilities, even if those disabilities are “invisible.”  I cried and repeatedly mouthed the words, “thank you” to the jurors.  I hugged Tim and Suzanna and thanked them for everything they had done for me over the years.  I felt like I was walking on air for days, even weeks afterward.  I believe that without Tim and Suzanna, I would not have won my case.

Fast forward to July, 2016…I had met a person at a local restaurant who thought she might be experiencing discrimination at work.  So, I stopped by Suzanna and Tim’s office to deliver some information on this potential case.  Tim told me how busy he was and that he could really use some help.  I said that I would love to be his assistant and later that day I was hired!

I’m now the full-time office manager here at Valdez & White Law Firm, LLC.  Every day I have the honor and the privilege to work with New Mexico’s number one employment law attorney, helping other people who are experiencing discrimination at work, or who have been wrongfully terminated from their jobs.  If you ever find yourself in such a situation, don’t hesitate, call Valdez & White.

For months I was dealing with sexual harassment at work from my boss, I was a wreck for so long, losing weight, not sleeping and dealing with severe anxiety! I ended up going to counseling because I found myself crying on a regular basis, and I was embarrassed at my own reaction even though none of this was my fault. Finally a wonderful, supportive friend told me this had to end and that I should consult an attorney. Tim White came highly recommended so I met with him and today I can't thank him enough! I thought I would be dealing with my lawsuit for years and with the anxiety that would come with the wait but instead Mr. White had my case resolved in weeks! I can finally breathe and move on with my life....from this point on it's happy tears! Thank you so much Mr. White, justice has been served!
